Transgender Friendly Stores to Shop

Do you love shopping as much as I do? Whether it’s a new lipstick or a cute pair of heels, it’s a lot of fun to splurge on your femme self, isn’t it?

Even with all the online shops, there’s nothing like hitting the mall to do some good old-fashioned shopping in person.

So where should you spend your hard-earned money?

In this article, I share the 5 best transgender and crossdresser friendly stores to shop at. These retailers support transgender causes and/or have gender inclusive policies – meaning they are truly worthy of your business.

Note: I focused on U.S. retailers since that’s where I’m based. Please share in the comments if you have any international shops to add!

1. SEPHORA

Sephora's store

SEPHORA is like a candy shop for girls and I could easily spend half my salary there. Besides the amazing assortment of beauty products, they also offer mini makeovers and beauty classes – including classes specifically for the transgender community. How great is it?

The classes are called Classes for Confidence: Bold Beauty for the Transgender Community. They consist of 90 minutes of one-on-one skin care and makeup training. Best of all, they’re FREE.

Go here to learn more and find a location near you.

2. LUSH

Lush Handmade Cosmetics store

LUSH is the best smelling store at the mall with their amazingly-scented natural beauty products. Here’s another reason to love them: In early 2018, they ran a two week #TransRightsAreHumanRights campaign, featuring quotes from their transgender employees in all the windows of their North American stores.

They also distributed a guidebook called How to Be a Trans Ally in their shops and published related features on their site.

3. Target

Target Store

As you are probably well aware, Target has been at the center of controversy for its inclusive transgender bathroom policy. I’m pleased to see that they have not backed down and their inclusive policy is still proudly displayed on their website.

Aside from that, Target is a great place to shop for stylish, affordable fashion and beauty products – pretty much everything you could need for your feminine self.

4. Macy’s

Macy's store

Macy’s is another corporate giant that is out and proud with its inclusive policies, including gender friendly changing room policies. Macy’s is also a big supporter of LGBTQ Pride Month, as you can see on their website.

While Macy’s has closed a lot of stores recently, it’s still one of the best places to shop for cosmetics, lingerie, women’s clothing, and shoes. This is one department store chain I hope stays around for a long time.

5. Nike

Nike store

Nike might seem like an unlikely store to have on this list, but I’ve included them for their very cool commercial featuring transgender vogue dancer Leiomy Maldonado. Check out the video below:

If you’re in the market for some cute workout leggings or a sports bra, Nike should definitely be the first place you look!

What are YOUR favorite places to shop at?

I love that these retailers support the transgender community on a corporate level, but they aren’t your only options. Helpful sales people and supportive shops can be found almost anywhere if you look. (And if somebody doesn’t treat you with respect, take your business elsewhere!)

What are YOUR favorite places to shop at? Do you have any great shopping experiences to share?

Do You Feel Guilty About Crossdressing / MTF?

Do you feel guilty about crossdressing or being transgender? Sadly, many of “my girls” tell me that they do.

If you feel you have to lie or sneak around to keep your feminine side hidden, I can understand the conflict.

But let’s get one thing straight – there’s nothing wrong with crossdressing or being transgender. Period.

We live in a world with very defined gender roles. Unfortunately, these roles are even more rigid for males.

It’s OK for women to express their masculinity by dressing like tomboys or by acting strong and assertive. But if a guy looks or acts feminine, he’s labeled as weird, weak, or gay.

The underlying message is that it’s OK to be masculine (even if you’re a woman), but femininity is something to be ashamed of.

What the heck!?

Society is slowing changing, but the time to reject these outdated messages is NOW.

I think Iggy Pop said it best:

“I’m not ashamed to dress like a woman because I don’t think it’s shameful to be a woman.”

Iggy Pop dress quote

There’s no shame in changing your gender to match who you are on the inside either!

I’d love to hear YOUR thoughts on this topic…

Do you struggle with guilt or is it a non-issue for you? If you’ve overcome feelings of guilt, how did you do so?

Please take my poll and leave me your comments below!

Love,

Jessica

Rules for Dressing Sexy at Any Age

A common mistake some crossdressers and transgender women make is dressing too sexy. This often looks ridiculous – ESPECIALLY as you get older.

Does that mean you need to turn down your sex appeal after a certain age?

Absolutely not!

Instead, simply follow these 3 rules for dressing sexy at any age:

Rule #1: Show Some Skin (just not too much)

legs and red heels

Short skirts and low cut tops are undeniably sexy, but you shouldn’t go too far with this. Here are a couple guidelines to keep in mind:

  • Your skirt should be no shorter than fingertip length when you stand with your arms to your sides.
  • Your top should show no more than 40% of your bust.

At the same time, you shouldn’t be TOO covered up since that just screams “old lady.” Show off your feminine assets, but do so in a tasteful and classy way.

Rule #2: Find the Right Proportions

Proportion refers to the way your clothes work together in length, width, size and volume.

For example:

  • A short skirt paired with a short top tends to look slutty.
  • A long skirt paired with a long top looks dowdy.
  • A full skirt paired with a full top makes you look heavy.
  • A tight skirt paired with a tight top can make you look like a sausage (unless you have a perfect body!).

You should never go too far in any one direction. That means if you wear something tight or skimpy, you should balance things out with the rest of your outfit.

For example:

  • A short skirt should be paired with a more covered top.
  • A skimpy top should be paired with a more covered bottom.
  • A tight skirt should be paired with a fuller top.
  • A tight top should be paired with a fuller skirt.

Rule #3: Wear Luxurious Fabrics

The final piece of the sexy puzzle is the fabrics you wear.

Think slutty and what comes to mind? A spandex skirt, barely there glittery top, and patent leather stripper boots, right?

Sexy, on the other hand, is associated with luxurious fabrics like silk, velvet, lace, and cashmere.

When shopping for clothes, look for fabrics that are rich and sensuous – rather than cheap and tacky.

Final Thoughts …

The bottom line is that you are NEVER too old to be your sexy femme self. Just be sure to keep it classy.

As always, I’ve love to hear your thoughts on this topic. Please leave me your comments below!

And if you’re already mastered the art of sexy ageless dressing, don’t forget to include a photo. 🙂

Male to Female Movement Mistakes to Avoid

Clothes, hair, and makeup are important aspects of your feminine image.

But your MOVEMENTS say more about you than you probably realize.

It doesn’t matter how good you look… If your movements give off a masculine vibe (or worse, are exaggerated and unnatural), you’re probably not making the impression you hoped for.

The first step to mastering your feminine movements? It’s avoiding some common mistakes!

Here are 5 male to female movement mistakes to avoid – and what to do instead:

1. Over-Exaggerated Hip Swinging

woman with her hands resting on her hips

There’s nothing more alluring than the sexy sway of a woman’s hips as she walks. But you should never overdo this. In fact, if you are consciously swinging your hips, it’s probably too much.

A better approach is to simply put on a pair of high heels and walk naturally. Heels automatically cause your hips to sway. The key is to relax your body and go with the flow.

2. Stiff Body Movements

Stiff isn’t sexy. As I mentioned earlier, the secret to fluid, feminine movements is to relax your body.

Tense muscles translate to stiff, masculine body movements. Focus on relaxing your body instead. Do stretching exercises to help release built-up tension.

3. Poor Posture

cartoon image of woman slouching

Your posture is the foundation for your movements. Here are two posture mistakes to avoid:

  • Slouching: If you’re tall, you might be tempted to slouch to downplay your height. Don’t. Slouching isn’t attractive and it definitely doesn’t make you look more feminine.
  • Arching your back: On the other extreme, avoid exaggerating your posture by arching your back and sticking your butt out. While you might think this looks “sexy,” it actually looks silly.

The fix for both of these mistakes is to stand tall with natural, lifted posture. This makes you look confident and feminine.

4. Stocky Shoulder Movements

Men carry their weight in their upper bodies, while a woman’s center of gravity is in her hips. In men, this often translates into strong upper body movements.

As you can see in the video above, the hallmark of a masculine walk is “stocky” shoulder movements. Compare that to the graceful sway of the women’s hips.

To counteract this tendency:

  • Keep your shoulders down and back. If you feel your shoulders coming forward, literally roll them back into place.
  • Focus on keeping your shoulders still while relaxing the hips. This will help transfer the movement to your lower body.
  • Keep your body weight neutral (or even slightly back) instead of leaning forward. This helps downplay the look of your shoulders.

5. Taking Up Too Much Space

There are many differences between male and female body language. One of the biggest differences is that men take up more space with their bodies while women tend to keep the space more closed.

How does this translate into movement?

  • When men walk, they typically have a space between their arms and body, while a woman’s hands brush her hips.
  • Men’s steps are longer and there’s often more space between the feet.

To correct this, rotate your elbows in so your arms stay closer to your body. Keep your feet closer together and take shorter steps when you walk.

Are you making the right moves?

Now that you know the most common mistakes, here’s another example of feminine movement to study and emulate. Notice the graceful posture, gently swinging hips, and relaxed body movements:

How feminine are YOUR movements? Do you struggle with this or are you one of the lucky girls who are naturally graceful?

Flawless Feminine Feet MTF

When it comes to creating a feminine physique, you probably pay a lot of attention to your bust, legs, and booty. Those areas are all important – but let’s not forget your feet!

Many girls neglect their feet or feel self-conscious about their appearance. But with a bit of care, your feet can look as feminine and foxy as the rest of you.

After all, there’s something so alluring about showing off sexy feet in a pair of strappy sandals or stilettos!

Here are 6 ways to get flawless feminine feet:

1. Indulge in a Professional Pedicure

cartoon of feet having a pedicure

While you can yourself a pedicure, I recommend going to a salon for a total pampering experience. Plus, it’s easier to maintain pretty feet at home after you’ve let a professional remove your calluses, trim your cuticles, and reshape your nails.

Many men get pedicures with clear nail polish, so don’t feel shy about going to the salon in male mode. (Though of course, it’s much more fun en femme!)

2. Banish Foot Odors

It’s hard to feel sexy and sensuous if you have stinky feet. The main cause of foot odor is sweat, so here are a few tips for controlling sweaty, smelly feet:

  • Try applying antiperspirant to the soles of your feet.
  • Take your shoes off when you’re at home to let your feet breath.
  • Wear cotton socks instead of polyester or nylon socks.
  • Put baking powder in your shoes. Sodium bicarbonate helps control the bacteria that causes foot odor.

3. Remove Excess Hair

I’m always surprised how many girls (including cisgender / genetic women) neglect to remove the hair from their feet. Talk about a distraction! When you shave your legs, don’t forget to include your feet and toes.

4. Get Rid of Calluses

Sexy feet are soft and touchable, so exfoliation is a must. Fortunately, there are some great tools that make the job of removing calluses much easier. I love the Amope Pedi Perfect Electronic Foot File.

5. Do a Foot Soak

Soaking your feet is a great way to get that spa experience at home – plus it leaves your feet clean and soft. Simply fill a basin with warm (not too hot) water and soak your feet for 10 minutes. To make the soak more effective and enjoyable, add some Epsom salt or scented bath salts.

6. Use a Rich Foot Cream

O'Keeffe's Healthy Feet Foot Cream

Feet take a lot of abuse during the day, so it’s important to care for them by applying moisturizer regularly. Feet require heavy duty moisture, look for a cream specifically designed for the feet. Some recommendations include:

Let’s see your fabulous feet!

I hope these tips inspire you to take wonderful care of your feet. I’d love to see the results, so please post your comments and pretty feet photos below!

Goal of Passing as a Woman MTF

“Passing as a woman” is the Holy Grail for many crossdressers and transgender women.

But it is really a goal worth pursuing?

If you’ve been afraid to show your feminine side for fear of not “passing,” it might be time to rethink your priorities.

I believe everybody has the potential to pass, but let’s face it… it’s not always easy!

It could take years to master all the subtleties of walking, talking, and presenting yourself as a woman. You might even require surgery to be truly passable in all situations.

That means that unless you plan to live as a woman full time, trying to become 100% passable just isn’t practical.

Rather than getting hung up on passing vs. not passing, I suggest you make it your goal to “blend in” instead.

Blending in means you look feminine and harmonious enough not to stand out in a negative way – even if you aren’t 100% passable.

Most people don’t scrutinize everybody around them, so unless there’s something glaringly off about you, you are unlikely to attract a second glance.

Does this mean everybody will think you are a cisgender (genetic) woman? Probably not. But it doesn’t matter.

The happiest crossdressers and transgender women I know don’t care whether they pass or not. They care about being themselves.

Passing is great when it happens, but there’s nothing wrong with being seen as the classy crossdresser or transgender woman that you are!

As long as you choose the right environment and present yourself well, you are likely to be met with acceptance.

Now I’d love to hear from YOU!

Please take my “Passing Poll” and share your thoughts below!

Love,
Jessica
